Apologies... these don't all have videos... but hear the music!
Powerful Music I love...
Barry White
Because he sang about "Love", he spoke to many many people, turned us on, made us dance, and helped us fall in love. 40 years later, I sang one of his songs, from memory, just because I was happy. That is the mark of a "Classic" ...
some could almost be Songs of Praise.
Van Morrison
... and it stoned me... To my Soul
I wish I had appreciated this genious earlier in my life.
F**k he has SOUL. (... for a Paleface). Must be the Celtic blood.
Love the discordant way this song starts... then it kind of comes together in a wonderful way where the rhythm catches up with the mood and turns into a crescendo of cacophenous noises all swaying drunkenly down the street echoing off the buildings and shattering the windows to wake the neighbourhood in inebriated joyousness to come out and dance like the Pied Piper was calling us all to dance along - and to hell with tomorrow.
This is plainly from his Religious "phase", funny how he and Dylan both got religion, eh? Kinda like that myself. Metaphysical.
No Guru... No Method... No Teacher..... just you and I and nature ...............and the Father and the Holy Ghost... in the Garden.
Did you ever take a day off and spend it wandering the beautiful countryside with a wonderful friend and have a day you cherish in your heart and would like to re-live over and over? This epitomises that kind of moment for me. A taste of Eden.
This one was new to me, only found it posting the others, NICE!
I "heard" these lyrics and this song for the first time lazing in the bath one easy Sunday, and interpreted them as "Madame Joy", strangely, only looked this up on Wikipedia today and found that was his original intent. That was the name of the song. Apparently he wrote it down as "Madame George". See Wikipedia yourself for deeper meaning. I don't care. It is evocative and rhythmic and haunting, and I love it.
Jason MrAz
Should this young upstart follow Van Morrison? Aye! Hats off to this guy, he makes me smile. Nice work.
Don't Dream...
I have NO f***ing idea what this song is about, but I think it is about "us". Don't dream if's over.....(dang, but it is a GOOD song!) ....We know they won't win! (I just love the way he is on a stage in front of Millions and he looks like he is playing the guitar in his bedroom) A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!!
You have just GOT to love the smile on his face when the audience echoes his lyrics with "we know they wont win".
SO good!!!!!!!!!!
Mystify
Hey....I know we had our problems. but.... inxs...
good tune!
Fisherman's Blues
Sing along now...
Katie Melua...
did you ever wonder if she got tired of laying on that skateboard?
The Olsen Brothers.... "Fly on the Wings of Love"
Who'd have thought that Eurovision would bring us such a great song... simple, but effective. Turn it up to full screen, whack up the volume, clap with the session singers, lift your cigarette lighter - and dance you Zombies!!!
Fly on the Wings of Love - Annia.
Not had enough yet? ... No... me neither...
I remember working with a Dive Crew in Glasgow on a Weir on the Clyde, went out for drinkie-poo's one night - I heard this and Bopped. Dive Crew not so much, too bad.
John Denver
Annie's Song is another of those TOTAL love songs that just celebrate life and love (to me).. Is it love for an individual - or love for the Creator? I guess that is when it gets to me - when you can't tell any more whom you are worshipping, your Lover, or the one who gave you your Lover.
Country Roads
not John's version, but, I feel, is in the spirit of the thing.
Live is Life
What a simple song... but the Chicks dig it.
What has he got?
He is Short, Not young and not Pretty... his voice is quiet like Andy Fairweather Low, his moustache is weedy...the lyrics are monotonous and not that heck of a clever, ... but what a GREAT song!!!!
He turns up on stage in an old Woolworth's Jumper and hasn't even combed his hair.
Get ready..... "La la la le lah!"
Peter Sarstedt?
Is it a Celebration - or a mourning? It is life ... not one we "Normals" were familiar with in the 60's, but poignant just the same.
Unashamedly Christian.
one of my favourites... no apologies for leaving several versions;
Turn UP the volume for this first version....
Another version I liked, this song has a life of its own, even reaching across language barriers. The audience looks kind of lost, ... bet they are singing it later.
Your Love
"Happy Slip" is a repeat poster on YouTube, does funny stuff normally, but recorded this some time ago... sadly the original has been taken down. (Mail Bomb her to put it back on!) but this remix was not needed, and the original video was brilliant. Maybe she felt self-conscious about it, I couldn't say, but I loved both the video and sound-track and wish she would repost. Nevertheless, worth signposting. Beautiful.
"Blood of the Lamb"
I first saw this in a movie... I could not believe that they used this tune to accompany the action. Turns out it was done by one of my "alternative" heroes, Billy Brag. I happen to like it. Jolly Tune.
My Jesus- my Saviour
excellent....start with a wee bairn.. Cue Choir.... GO!!!!
"I sing for joy at the work of your hands.."
don't you though????????
Hey.. This is God
Ever woner what HE would say if he could intervene....? Maybe this....
